A Narrative Practice Approach to Treatment
Paper Lagoon makes narrative psychology more accessible
Narrative Psychology takes the stories we think, speak or write, and leaves ownership of the story to the individual who is doing the storytelling. In many traditional psychotherapy practices, A clinician takes what a client self-reports with the objective of pathologizing their behavior. Often times the clinical language used by psychotherapists is challenging for the client to understand. With a Narrative approach, anyone can use tools to help themselves on their own terms but with support and illumination of their truth rather than take on pathological judgement. How do we want our story to be told? How do we want it to sound to ourselves? How should it sound to others? And lastly, What medium should it be told through, which is not limited to the individual’s literary capacities?
